Dr. Lucine Taminian is a Cultural and Social Anthropologist with research interests in expressive cultures, oral history, politics of identity and has carried out field research in Jordan, Lebanon and Yemen. She led a number of research projects including the Oral Histories of Iraqis Living outside Iraq and Oral Histories in Jordan. She taught anthropology, expressive cultures, social thought and methodology at the American University in Beirut, University of Michigan, Sarah Lawrence College, Pace University and Sana’a University. Dr. Taminian is the author of several articles published in edited books and refereed journals. She was a reviewer for the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, Journal of Women’s History, and Cultural Anthropology. She translated numerous scholarly articles from English to Arabic, including 34 articles on Yemen which were published in three books she edited. From 2006-2020, she was the senior researcher in residence at The Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TARII) in Amman.
