The Department of History and Archaeology at the American University of Beirut invites applications for a full-time faculty position in modern Middle East history, with a focus on the Arabic-speaking world, to begin August 15, 2019. The position is tenure-track and open to all ranks (assistant, associate, and full professor).
The position is open to scholars of all regions and thematic interests, but the department especially welcomes applications of candidates working on questions of political economy and/or social history within a comparative perspective. PhD must be in hand by the time of appointment. The appointee will provide undergraduate and graduate teaching in his/her field of specialization and more general topics covered in the department’s regular program. Aside from teaching, the successful candidate is expected to participate actively in the supervision of graduate students, engage in productive research, and contribute to academic service related to the department and the University at large. The language of instruction is English.
Appointments at the assistant professor rank are for an initial period of four years.
