The revolutionary wave that spread across the Arab world in the early twenty-first century led to a series of political transformations and the formation of new gendered subjectivities. These developments resulted in a surge of intellectual revisions of dominant paradigms for the study and understanding of gender in the Arab world. Notwithstanding, much remains to be explored, acknowledged and revisited.
Cairo Studies in English is planning a volume, titled Gendered Identities in the Arab World, that seeks to address the diverse manifestations of these recent developments on women’s literary narratives and scholarship in the Arab world. The volume is edited by Prof. Shereen Abouelnaga, Prof. Hoda Elsadda, and Dr. Hala Kamal.
Cairo Studies in English invites submissions that focus on:
- The study/critique of women’s narratives and literary expressions produced in the first decades of the twenty-first century (literary texts, memoirs, autobiographies, oral histories …).
- A critical engagement with scholarship on gender in the Arab world in the twenty-first century.
