6 Reasons to Publish a Working Paper

08/01/2016
As an organization dedicated to fostering social science research and knowledge production in the Arab world, the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) launched a Working Paper Series (WPS) to disseminate new and exciting academic papers related to social sciences and the region, and explore ideas through scholarly discussion.

Working papers are preliminary scientific texts or pre-publication versions of academic articles, book chapters, or reviews. In addition to generating knowledge and sparking debates, the ACSS Working Paper Series can help advance your research and career. Here’s how.

  1. The ACSS Working Paper Series gives you the chance to receive peer feedback on your work in progress.
  2. It is an early and fast means of publication prior to further development of your work, compared to other peer-reviewed venues, which might take up to a year or more.
  3. It allows you to put your name on a research topic and gain exposure with a broad audience, however preliminary your work may be at the time of publication.
  4. It opens the door for possible collaborations with researchers in and outside the Arab region.
  5. It gives you the opportunity to publish your work in other languages. If you’re publishing your research primarily in one language, the Working Paper Series gives you the chance to have your work translated into other languages.
  6. It allows you to retain the full copyright for your work. This means that even if you publish a working paper with us, you are free to publish it elsewhere at any time.
