The Arab Reform Initiative (ARI) is a policy research centre whose key mission is to articulate a home grown agenda for democratic change in Arab countries. It operates on the principles of impartiality, social justice, and diversity. It conducts policy analysis and research, while providing a platform for inspirational voices and empowering young scholars and socially engaged youth. ARI is a hub for a network of Arab think tanks and works in partnership with international institutions. ARI engages academic research centres, think tanks, social movements, decision-makers, media and the public on issues of democratization and political transformation. ARI combines scholarly work and advocacy and produces practical intellectual tools to influence existing political transformation. It promotes sustained exchanges and dialogues on reform across the region and with outside partners.
Job profile
ARI is recruiting a Senior Policy Research Fellow to second the Director by providing strategic direction for the Initiative’s programmes, producing in-depth policy relevant analysis on key political, social and security issues related to Arab countries, engaging with the Initiative’s partners and external stakeholders. The Senior Policy Research Fellow will be expected to play an active role in programmatic fundraising activities and to contribute actively to ARI’s broader strategic agenda and collaborative projects.

Responsibilities
- Support the Director in formulating research projects, relevant initiatives, fund-raising priorities in consultation with other programme staff
- Author policy relevant analysis on key political, social and security issues;
- Pro-actively raise funds for the programmes and help manage existing donor relations;
- Manage research processes and project outputs, as well as events and convening;
- Provide support and help develop ARI’s professional team;
- Work with the communication team to develop and implement advocacy strategies for the programmes targeting Arab and global audiences and promote ARI’s work in the media including building and maintaining contacts with relevant journalists and writing op-eds in relevant newspapers;
- Maintain outreach with relevant stakeholders and represent ARI with external stakeholders including Arab, EU and international institutions, donors and other partners in various meetings;
- Manage personnel and budgetary issues.
Person Specification
- Proven experience and specialist knowledge in one or more of the relevant policy areas, as well as a sound experience of working within the policy research community;
- Proven engagement within the Arab policy arena,
- Excellent communication skills, with a proven standard of written and spoken English and Arabic language proficiency
- Confident public speaker and capable of dealing with the media;
- Competent fundraiser with experience of both public and private donors;
- Experience in project cycle management including personnel and budget;
- Flexible and able to multi-task, work towards tight deadlines and manage high pressure situations.
