The Arab Council for the Social Sciences seeks a full-time Data Entry Analyst to contribute to the data management for the Arab Social Science Monitor (ASSM) project. The position is full-time and based at the ACSS offices in Beirut, Lebanon.
The ASSM is one of the major projects of the ACSS and aims to establish a permanent observatory dedicated to surveying the landscape and assessing the trajectories of social science research in the Arab region, evaluating capacities and characteristics of the social science communities across the region and following up on emergent research agendas and themes. To that end, the ASSM collects and analyzes both quantitative and qualitative measures and makes that data and knowledge produced publically available through different mechanisms.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain and update a database on social science institutions (e.g. universities, research centers, professional societies), products (e.g. periodicals) and practices (e.g. tenure and promotion procedures) in the Arab region. This includes data collection from both primary and secondary sources, data cleaning and validation.
- Participate in qualitative and quantitative data collection efforts including review of questionnaires, conducting interviews and other survey administration activities and follow up.
- Refine database design as needed.
- Create tables, graphs, charts and other data visuals as well as Powerpoint presentations.
- Draft methodologies.
- Assist in data analysis.
- Assist in the review and production processes of papers, reports and other publications.
- Maintain correspondence and files related to ASSM data collection and management.
Qualifications and Competencies
- An undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information management systems or Statistics with demonstrated experience in data management. Practical experience in survey administration is a plus.
- High level of proficiency in all MS Office applications (especially data tools) as well as database and internet applications.
- Knowledge of a statistical package (e.g. STAT, SPSS) is desirable.
- Superior organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated individual with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong knowledge of Arabic and English is required. French is an asset.
Supervision
The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the ACSS Director General, and will report directly to ASSM Project Leader. S/he will work closely with the lead author of the ASSR and will work collaboratively with the ACSS Communications team as well as other staff and outside consultants as needed.
