Arab Studies Journal Features the Work of ACSS Fellows

12/02/2015
In its Fall 2015 issue, the Arab Studies Journal (ASJ) featured the work of four of our fellows in a special section called "New Paradigms Factory." The four fellows (named below) took part in one of our fellowship programs of the same name (New Paradigms Factory (NPF))

Hocine Zobiri
"State, Sovereignty, and Labor Movements in Algeria: Autonomous Unions Take Action"

Abir Saksouk-Sasso
"Making Spaces for Communal Sovereignty: The Story of Beirut's Dalieh"

Nadine Bekdache
"Evicting Sovereignty: Lebanon's Housing Tenants from Citizens to Obstacles"

Akram Abdel Gayoum Abbas
"The Gendering of Spaces and Institutions of Islamic Sovereignty in Contemporary Sudan"

Paul Amar, our NPF mentor and editor of the section, introduced this special feature with an article of his own titled "New Paradigms of Popular Sovereignty in the Wake of the Arab Uprisings."

The "New Paradigms Factory" section in the journal is the fruit of a joint collaboration between the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) and ASJ.

The New Paradigms Factory (NPF) Program at the ACSS aims at facilitating research and publishing by innovative, critical-thinking, and engaged junior Arab scholars and activists, particularly those facing limited access to mentoring and/or publishing venues.
