The Palestinian Oral History Archive at the American University of Beirut has opened its call for interns for the Fall of 2015.
The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI), the American University of Beirut Libraries, the Arab Resource Center for the Popular Arts (ARCPA/AL-JANA), and the Nakba Archive (NA) are partnering to produce the Palestinian Oral History Archive. The project aims to digitize, preserve and provide access to the two oral history collections produced by ARCPA/AL-JANA and Nakba Archive, in the hope to encourage scholarship about and access to these valuable testimonies.
Application Procedure
Applicants are expected to provide the following:
1. Curriculum Vitae;
2. Letter of purpose;
3. One recommendation (academic or professional).
Shortlisted candidates will be called in for an interview while overseas candidates will have to be available for a phone or skype interview.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The principal responsibility of the interns is to assist the project staff in certain tasks that can range from archiving library material and assisting in the organization of Palestinian Oral History Archive (Indexing and Cataloguing, List Development etc.).
The tasks will revolve around assisting the team in:
- Engaging in the analysis of the content of interviews from different collections covering different themes and time periods;
- Indexing the interviews using the indexing tools developed by the project;
- Events organization;
- Project-related clerical tasks;
- Research on Oral History and Palestinian History.
Qualifications
- A graduate or student in the social sciences, library science, or a relevant field;
- Demonstrated interest in and knowledge of modern Palestinian history;
- Excellent command of English and Arabic;
- Experience is a plus.
