Deadline: February 14, 2020
The Political Science Department at the American University in Cairo (AUC) in collaboration with the Arab Political Science Network (APSN) announces a call for applications for the Annual Summer School on Research Design and Methodology. The Summer School is aimed at advanced MA and PhD students in political science at Arab public and private universities. Scholars in other social science disciplines are also encouraged to apply. The program will take place at the American University’s downtown campus on June 14-19, 2020. The deadline for applications is February 14, 2020.
The Summer School is an incubator for new practices of political and social inquiry derived from the questions and projects of young Arab scholars seeking to establish renewed linkages between theory, methodology and the altered political and social landscapes. The program will provide researchers and junior faculty with an opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their research projects and guide them on matters of research design and the relevant methodological and theoretical approaches such as case studies, formal modelling, experimental designs, ethnography, structuralism, institutionalism, social constructivism and critical theories.
Participants will be required to share a research proposal in advance of the Summer School to facilitate the feedback and engagement with their colleagues and the lecturers. A set of assigned readings will be shared ahead of the sessions to provide for a lively and informative debate. Non-Egyptian participants are expected to arrive June 13 and depart June 20 and will be provided with visa support letters if necessary. The cost of participation including airfare and lodging for non-Egyptian participants will be subsidized by AUC and APSN.
