The ACSS supports pluralistic and diverse thought as a critical aspect of overall social development. The ACSS serves as a forum for debates around social phenomena, with a focus on dialogues surrounding academic freedom, freedom of speech and expression as well as policies governing social research, access to information and trends in higher education. As appropriate, the ACSS will collaborate with various institutions, including Human Rights organizations, to ensure these issues receive public attention.

The mission of the ACSS includes initiating dialogues between researchers, policy makers, civil society organizations and the media in order to fill gaps in interaction and exchange and to create mutual grounds for cooperation and exchange. Thematic areas of research sponsored and organized by the ACSS that lend themselves to policy interventions would be selected and appropriate fora and mechanisms designed for their discussion.
