Convening and Networking

A primary function of the ACSS is to serve as a convener to bring together individuals and institutions involved in the production, dissemination, utilization and application of social science knowledge. These include national, regional and international research entities as well as individual researchers, policy makers, practitioners, donor agencies, the media, and the interested public. The ACSS will particularly encourage Arab Diaspora scholars to participate actively in regional initiatives.

Networking will take place through various mechanisms and modalities including:

The General Assembly

The ACSS General Assembly is the Council’s main site of scholarly exchange and networking that brings together various generations of Arab social scientists from different national and disciplinary backgrounds. According to the ACSS Charter, the General Assembly meets every two years.

The General Assembly meeting will generally be held in conjunction with the bi-annual conference of the ACSS.

The ACSS Conference

The bi-annual conference will be held every two years and is the primary forum for showcasing ACSS projects and promoting networking and collaboration.

Other forms of networking will include national and regional meetings for scholarly communities, workshops  [click here] for ACSS grantees, the development of working groups as well as policy dialogues and seminar series to be held at the head-office and other venues. While much of this will be done through concrete research activities, the ACSS will also support other links with research communities in the region and internationally through appropriate platforms such as faculty exchanges and other mechanisms.
