Third Workshop of the Research Initiative on the Economics of the Middle East
November 5-6, 2018

The Research Unit “Développement et sociétés”, Institut d’étude du développement économique et social (IEDES), Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD) are organizing a workshop on the economics of the Middle East on November 5-6, 2018.
 
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together researchers working on different aspects of economic development in the Middle East and North Africa, with a particular emphasis on economic policies in the region. The workshop is open to considering rigorous research from economists, historians and political scientists. Fresh PhDs and early career researchers are especially encouraged to apply. The following sub-themes will be especially welcome in the Paris workshop:
  • Conflict andpost-conflict
  • Economic history and development in theregion
  • Labour markets and socialpolicies
  • Migration and refugees: economic and politicalaspects
  • Monetary and fiscal policies in the Arabworld
  • Natural resources and politicalinstitutions
  • Political economy of reforms in the post-Arab springcontext
  • Structural transformation of the economies of theregion
Funding
It is hoped that most participants will be able to finance their travel and accommodation from their own institutions, but there will be a small fund available to help those who cannot (particularly PhD students and young researchers).
 
Application Deadline
Papers should be submitted to mena.workshop@univ-paris1.fr by August 15, 2018; authors will be informed about the decisions no later than August 31, 2018.
