The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) is a regional, independent, non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening social science research and knowledge production in the Arab world.

ACSS is recruiting for the following positions:

Finance Manager who will be responsible for:

1. Financial Management:

Budgets and Management Reporting

a. Prepare and develop budgets for submission to the management and donors/funders.

b. Provide Financial reporting of actual expenses against work plans & budgets as/when required to Director General, Administration & Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees, as well as to the Board of Trustees.

c. Verify budgets and financial reports of branches and focal points

d. Respond to ACSS departments requesting budget summaries for their activities

e. Maintain excellent relations with the banks and other stakeholders

Financial Processing

a. Process scheduled/required payments and channel to the Senior Accountant

b. Ensure a proper recording of accruals in line with contracts and agreements

c. Support preparation annual audits and approve them before final submission

d. Prepare and submit the answer to the auditors’ management letter

e. Prepare periodical and annual financial statements working with the Accountant and auditors

f. Monitor, verify and approve monthly accounting reconciliations (banks, petty cash)

Payroll Management

a. Prepare and manage the payroll based on givens from the Head of Administration & HR

b. Support all other employer payroll related requirements.

c. Verify the payroll reconciliations prepared by the Senior Accountant at year-end.

2.  Compliance Management

a. Ensure compliance with sector requirements specifically those related to the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Finance, and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

3.  Finance Department Management

a. Supervise and lead the finance department team in achieving their best results

b. Provide support to the team to enhance their performance

Eligibility, Qualifications & Competencies

Educational/Vocational Qualifications

·         A degree in Business Administration or relevant field.

·         Demonstrable experience in a similar role in a non-profit, membership or training environment or small to medium business environment with 5-15 years experience in finance

·         Good understanding of accounting principles including accrual accounting, reconciliations, general ledger journals, preparedness to learn more complex principles

·         High level of knowledge and competency in Microsoft Office especially Word & Excel.

·         Well-presented and excellent organizational and communication skills.

·         Good written and verbal communication in Arabic and English

·         Experience in providing general support in a small team, and an experienced team player

·         Can work autonomously, effectively managing workload without continual guidance

·         Ability to analyze situations and take corrective actions

·         Attention to details

The position is based in Beirut. Some travel to activities in the Arab region will be required.

Communications & IT Manager who will be responsible for:

 

  • Developing strategies for promoting the organization’s work, raising its profile in the research and public sphere across the Arab region and globally, and disseminating the research and other work sponsored and/or organized by the ACSS to target different audiences.
  • Managing all aspects of the public interface of the ACSS with its various constituents: researchers, donors, the media, policy makers, universities, NGOs and research centers.
  • Planning, budgeting and implementing all communicationsactivities in line with the overall ACSS strategy to realize desired positioning, coverage and reach.
  • Managing the ACSS branding and visual identity.
  • Developing content for social media, websites, newsletters, press releases and any other distribution channel.
  • Creating presentations, articles, reports, media kits and other information for internal and external use.
  • Organizing the relationship between the Communications Unit and other units and staff of the ACSS, including developing guidelines and processes to organize the workflow.
  • Providing communication support to other ACSS units and projects.
  • Identifying and working with consultants and service providers for different outputs and infrastructures.
  • Helping develop internal IT systems, including CRM and databases.

 

Eligibility, Qualifications & Competencies

  • Degree in a relevant field/s;
  • Minimum of 6 years of managerial experience in communications, branding, PR or related field;
  • Working knowledge of Content Management Systems and Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator);
  • Familiarity with the production and editing of multimedia materials (videos, podcasts, etc.);
  • Experience with IT technologies and best practices across multiple platforms;
  • Familiarity with the social sciences and its vocabulary;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English. French is a plus.

The position is based in Beirut. Some travel to activities in the Arab region will be required.
